How Does Airbnb Work

Travellers (known as guests on AirBnB) search the available database of properties by entering details about when and where they'd like to travel. Guests can filter by room type, price, amenities, host languages and more. The site has properties across the world in more than 190 countries. Guests pay for accommodation through the AirBnb platform and also pay a fee of 6-12% to AirBnB depending on the specifics of the reservation.

Airbnb hosts list their properties - which can be single rooms, a suite of rooms, apartments, moored yachts, houseboats, entire houses or even a castle - on the Airbnb website. It's free to create a listing, and hosts decide how much to charge per night, per week or per month. Each listing allows hosts to promote properties through titles, descriptions, photographs with captions and a user profile where potential guests can get to know a bit about the hosts. Hosts pay a 3% service fee for each reservation made through the site.

Good but not great. I've used for two bookings with my wife and have to say we've had two great trips. The only thing is that hosts can sometimes, not lie but stretch the truth a little. Other than that it's good.

I used Airbnb during my trip in Paris. I have just positive things to say! I was living in Trocadero just with 45 euros per night. The apartment was really nice and the owner was really friendly. I really recommend if you want to find a nice holiday accommodation abroad!

I have used Airbnb about six times over the last two years for three different reasons, for a couples holiday, for a bachelor party and for business. Personally it’s the first place I go to when looking for travel accommodation now. If you’re going to Australia though I recommend Stayz because they have more places available and I think its Bookabach for New Zealand.

Anyway Airbnb is full of great choice at a variety of prices. Sometimes all I need is a room for a night so don’t mind sharing but if I’m with girlfriend I’ll usually look to rent the entire accommodation.

Hosts have always been pleasant and accommodating, I usually aim for hosts with positive reviews. I would give five stars but I think the fee Airbnb takes is high and I was once cancelled on a few days after booking but was a rare occurrence.
