How Does Upwork Work
HOW IT WORKS FOR CLIENTS (FREELANCE EMPLOYERS) AT UPWORK
Employers can post a job relatively quickly via Upwork and start receiving applications within hours if not minutes. Employers fill out a straightforward job description including skills required, how to pay the freelancer (hourly or fixed price), desired experience level, length of job, time commitment of freelancer (more than 30 hours, less than 30 hours or 'I don't know yet). Once posted and applications arrive, the employer can interview certain freelancers if they so wish through the platform. Once hired, the freelancer will begin work and Upwork will arrange payment, contracts and invoices between freelancers and clients.
HOW DOES UPWORK WORK FOR FREELANCERS
Freelancers start by creating a 'freelancer profile' which is essentially an online introduction, résumé and personal marketing brochure highlighting skills, experience, education and Upwork skills test results. Upwork skills tests are provided by Upwork so freelancers can prove their skill sets to potential clients through the site. Once the freelancer profile is created and polished, Upwork freelancers then apply for fixed priced and hourly jobs advertised on the site. Skillsets in demand range vastly from the web, mobile & software development jobs to translation & accounting. Once the freelancer is successful and appointed, the contract will be arranged via Upwork which includes fees etc. Upwork securely holds the payment from the client and pays freelancers according to their contract.
